Weather

Palawan is a year-round destination. There is never a bad time to visit Palawan for a holiday. The temperature in Palawan averages between 75 F and 84 F (24 C – 29 C) all year round, although it can get cooler at night til dawn.

The prevailing winds in the Philippines are Northeast monsoon (Amihan) from November to February and southwest monsoon (Habagat) from July to September.

Amihan is characterized by moderate temperatures, little or no rainfall, and a prevailing wind from the east. Habagat is characterized by hot and humid weather, occasional heavy rainfall, and a prevailing wind from the west.

Palawan is rarely hit by typhoons and it’s also safe from natural catastrophes such as forest fires, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions.

We constantly monitor the weather situation closely, our highly experienced captain has roamed this route for decades and will always choose the most optimal course. Therefore every expedition will be unique, tailored to give you the best experience adapted to the ocean condition, in-water visibility and optimal anchorage points.

Check in & check out

Check in or pick up time is between 6:30 to 7am on the first day of the expedition to give enough time to travel to Dipnay port and a quick briefing before we start the sail.

We also aim to arrive early at the first destination to have a better chance of witnessing the undisturbed marine life waiting for us.

For the check out time, we usually give our ka-lakbays enough time to enjoy kayangan lake/darukutan island just before dropping at Coron/Dipnay port before sunset.

We will have a 30 mins grace period and if for valid reasons you will arrive later than that we can help you organize a special pick up and transfer for a fee.

Yes if they are accompanied by at least one of their parents who will take responsibility at all times.

The minimum age is 7.

A pre-departure checklist will be sent to you after your booking is confirmed.

Facilities & amenities

Drinking water is available on board, you only need to bring a refillable water container.

The two nights will be spent camping on a beach either in a traditional Nipa hut or a tent, where you will fall asleep lulled by the sea lapping the shore after having gazed at the stunning starry sky free of light pollution.

Please expect to share accommodation with 1 more Ka-lakbay.

We have a limited charging station available onboard when the boat is sailing, personal power banks are highly recommended.

Since we are sailing across remote locations, online connection and phone reception is very limited.

If you need internet for work purposes, we highly recommend that you alert your colleagues in advance so that you won’t be stressed out throughout the trip.

Comfort amenities such as toilet papers and restrooms are available on board and at campsites, although do not expect a luxurious setting as you are exploring remote areas.

Drinking alcohol while on board is discouraged to allow you to enjoy the adventure at its fullest while preventing unwanted events or circumstances due to our remote locations. However we provide unlimited alcohol at campsites where you can party as much as you want.

Living conditions

Our expedition motobanca can accommodate up to 30 guests, however, for us to be able to fully cater to our ka-lakbay’s optimal experience we try to minimize to 20-22 people maximum per expedition.

We ensure that party areas are substantially distanced from tents/nipa huts. Other activities are provided for a wide age range and preferences.

Nature also provides a plethora of entertainment you will surely enjoy.

Mosquitoes and sandflies are part of the island life and cannot be avoided but the sea breeze at our beach camp and a good campfire will keep them at bay. Your sleeping quarters are equipped with mosquito nets to ensure a tranquil and invigorating sleep. We encourage you to bring mosquito repellent otherwise, all natural insect spray is available for purchase on board as well as light long sleeves and pants.

Even though Palawan is one of the most pristine places on earth, please bear in mind that the living situation in rural areas is not comparable to living in the city. Your feet are going to be covered in sand no matter how often you wash them, insects and animals are part of the environment.

Absolutely, there is always plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables onboard as well as a varied menu. Just let us know about your particular food requirement and we will make sure to accommodate you.

Boat and sea

The day before departure we will gather you for a briefing about important facts, safety protocols, and what to expect so you may optimize your island experience. It is also the perfect chance to meet and greet our crew and other ka-lakbays explorers you will be traveling with for several days.

Well-seasoned local guides will accompany you during your islands and in-water adventures to ensure you won’t miss any of the incredible highlights we have in reserve for you and look out for any safety issues.

The sea can be calm in the morning and rough in the afternoon. If you easily get sick in cars or planes, you are likely to get motion sickness on the boat as well.

Try to look afar instead of looking down on your phones, and avoid alcohol or eating too full. A ginger tea before sailing will help prevent this and some natural, ginger based remedies can also be bought before you fly. We encourage you to bring your own medication if needed.

You are strongly advised to bring dry bags for your daily use. Your most precious items and everything you will not use during the expedition will be stored in a safe compartment for the duration of the trip.

There will be many amazing stops throughout the tour for swimming and snorkeling! You are welcome to bring your snorkeling gear or use the one on board, you may also rent a set of fins for the duration of the expedition.

Some organisms do sting like jellyfish (including a jellyfish!) Rash guard and reef shoes are a few gears that can protect you and, of course, no touching or picking up marine life.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any SCUBA diving equipment so far, but we are definitely planning to add it soon!
